FRAGRANCE DESCRIPTION
Vetiver is an aromatic herb, the finest of which is grown in places like Haiti, India, Indonesia, and Réunion. The term vetiver comes from a Tamil word meaning "pulled root," perfectly fitting for a plant whose roots are the most valuable part of the perfume industry. These are harvested and dried, a process that intensifies and develops the plant's intrinsic odor.
Like grape varieties, much is focused on the terroir that produces vetiver, the importance of soil, climate, and other environmental factors. It's an extremely popular note in perfumery, both as an essential carrier and as a protagonist, as in this splendid version by Boadicea.
Vetiver Imperiale shines from the start, immediately settling into a rising note of fresh, moist vetiver. Its green is a faded chartreuse. The opening delight is a fabulously fragrant trio of white, black, and pink pepper, a piquant condiment of bright, dry spices. They pair beautifully with the bergamot, neroli, and juicy mandarin in the top notes, adding sweetness, and it is the pink pepper, or Baies Roses, as it is sometimes called, that transmutes with its luminosity.
Cardamom and patchouli add an invigorating touch to the pepper-and-citrus-infused cocktail. Vetiver expands and becomes increasingly dominant, with a scent of green sugar. As expected, vetiver is a base note, enhanced by the softness of amber and Atlas cedar. Vetiver Imperiale is gorgeous to wear, housed in a turquoise version of the Boadicea bottle, whose cap and shield are dipped in 18-karat gold, giving the bottle a jewel-like intensity. The rooty haze of the final stages is delightful, a blend of nostalgia and contemporary greenery. A wonderful scent.
